La Tavola valdese, composta da sette membri, pastori e laici, è l’organo che rappresenta ufficialmente le chiese metodiste e valdesi nei rapporti con lo Stato e con le organizzazioni ecumeniche; i suoi membri hanno un incarico annuale, rinnovabile per un massimo di sette anni consecutivi.
Il termine Tavola risale ai secoli passati, quando i valdesi erano segregati nelle valli del Piemonte. Essi tenevano i sinodi nelle chiese alla presenza di un rappresentante del sovrano, in lingua francese; l’ufficio di presidenza (moderatore, vice-moderatore e segretario) sedeva al tavolo al centro dell’assemblea. Di qui la dizione “gli ufficiali della Tavola” (les officiers de la Table), diventata poi semplicemente la Table e oggi la Tavola.
Il termine è analogo all’inglese Board nel duplice significato di tavolo e comitato, commissione.
William Jourdan, moderatore
Nato a Pinerolo nel 1982, è cresciuto nelle Valli Valdesi, nella chiesa valdese di Luserna San Giovanni. Dopo aver frequentato il Collegio valdese di Torre Pellice, ha studiato teologia a Roma, presso la Facoltà valdese di Teologia e, successivamente, a Heidelberg e Losanna. Dal 2010 al 2017 è stato in servizio presso le chiese metodiste di Vicenza e Bassano del Grappa, ricoprendo per una parte di questo tempo il ruolo di sovrintendente del VII Circuito. A partire dal 2017 è stato pastore della chiesa valdese di Genova; dal 2018 al 2021 è stato sovrintendente del V Circuito, prima di diventare membro della Tavola valdese. Ha collaborato con l’editrice Claudiana e con la rivista Protestantesimo ed è attivo nel dialogo ecumenico, con significative esperienze in ambito nazionale e internazionale. Sposato con una pastora metodista, hanno un figlio e una figlia.
Daniele Palermo, vice moderatore
Nato nel 1971, è membro della Chiesa valdese di Palermo Via Spezio.
È professore associato di Storia moderna all’Università di Palermo. Presidente del Concistoro dal 2020 al 2023 e membro della Commissione esecutiva del IV Distretto dal 2019 al 2026, anno in cui è stato eletto vice moderatore della Tavola Valdese.
Andrea Sbaffi
Metodista, nato nel 1969, dal 2015 è membro della Chiesa valdese di Torino. Ha fatto parte del Concistoro della chiesa con delega alla Commissione stabili. Sposato con Federica (battista), ha tre figli e costituisce a tutti gli effetti una vera famiglia BMV (battista-metodista-valdese). Architetto, libero professionista per oltre vent’anni, dal 2021 è funzionario direttivo tecnico della Regione Piemonte, nella Direzione cultura e commercio. Cresciuto nella Chiesa metodista di Bologna e nel Centro studi di Ecumene (Velletri), ha fatto parte per quindici anni della Federazione giovanile evangelica in Italia, rappresentata anche in numerosi incontri internazionali (WSCF, EMYC, MAYC, EYCE). È stato altresì obiettore di coscienza presso il Rifugio Re Carlo Alberto di Luserna S.Giovanni (To) e membro del Comitato esecutivo del Centro ecumenico Agape (Prali, To) dal 2009 al 2015.
Laura Baldassini
Nata a Milano nel 1963, lavora come coordinatrice in un’agenzia per l’inserimento lavorativo di persone con disabilità e in condizioni di svantaggio.
Cresciuta nella Chiesa valdese di Milano, ha maturato un lungo impegno in ambito comunitario, sociale e ambientale. Ha partecipato alla Federazione giovanile evangelica in Italia, insegnato italiano a persone straniere presso il Centro Jacopo Lombardini di Cinisello Balsamo (dove ha anche vissuto l’esperienza della “Comune”) e ha coordinato il Team ambientale Gallo Verde e il gruppo contro la violenza di genere.
Ha fatto parte fino ad oggi del Concistoro della Chiesa valdese di Milano ed è, dal 2024, componente dell’Assemblea della Federazione delle chiese evangeliche in Italia.
Davide Ollearo
Nato nel 1970 a Ivrea e cresciuto nella locale chiesa valdese.
Ha svolto gli studi presso la Facoltà valdese di teologia e la Facoltà di teologia dell’Università di Basilea. Presso la Facoltà valdese ha anche conseguito il master in teologia interculturale. Nel 1999, dopo il periodo di prova, è stato consacrato al ministero pastorale, ministero svolto a Scicli, Pramollo e Villar Perosa. Attualmente è pastore presso le chiese metodiste di Bassano del Grappa e Vicenza.
È stato membro del Consiglio del II Circuito e delle Commissioni esecutive del I e del II Distretto. Della Commissione esecutiva del II Distretto è stato anche presidente. È sposato con la pastora Daniela Santoro e hanno due figli.
Ulf Hermann Koller
Nato nel 1965 in Germania, sposato e padre di tre figli, è giurista con doppia abilitazione di Stato (Volljurist). Vive in Umbria da quasi trent’anni. Prima di trasferirsi in Italia ha esercitato la professione di avvocato; successivamente, fino al 2010, ha lavorato in un’azienda multinazionale, occupandosi dapprima di affari generali e legali, poi di relazioni esterne e personale. Dal 2011 è consulente nell’ambito della ricerca e selezione del personale, dell’organizzazione aziendale, della privacy e dell’anticorruzione; da 8 anni è inoltre auditor di enti e progetti europei.
Metodista, già presidente del Consiglio della Chiesa metodista di Terni e vicepresidente della Commissione esecutiva del III Distretto. Eletto per la prima volta nel 2021 come membro della Tavola Valdese, da allora è delegato per il III Distretto.
Davide Rostan
Nato a Roma nel 1973. È cresciuto a Cinisello Balsamo presso la “Comune” del Circolo Jacopo Lombardini frequentando la comunità valdese di Milano. Ha studiato teologia a Roma, presso la Facoltà valdese di Teologia e, successivamente, a Cambridge. Pastore valdese dal 2005, in servizio dal 2021 presso la chiesa valdese di Bobbio Pellice anche con il ruolo di sovrintendente del I° circuito. Dopo il periodo di prova presso le chiese di Cerignola, Venosa, Corato e Bergamo, ha svolto il suo ministero a Prali, Catania, Novara, Susa, Coazze e Meana. È stato co-direttore del centro ecumenico Agape dal 2005 al 2009. Per circa 10 anni ha svolto il suo ministero anche presso chiese battiste dell’UCEBI: a Catania e in val di Susa.

The Waldensian board
The Tavola Valdese (Waldensian Board), composed of seven members, both pastors and laypeople, is the official body that represents the Waldensian and Methodist churches in their relations with the Italian State and with ecumenical organizations. Its members serve a one-year term, renewable for up to seven consecutive years.
The term Tavola (board) dates back to past centuries when the Waldensians were confined to the valleys of Piedmont. At the time, Synods were held in churches and in the presence of a representative of the sovereign; proceedings were conducted in French. The presiding officers (moderator, vice-moderator, and secretary) sat at a table in the center of the assembly. Hence the term “the officers of the Table” (les officiers de la Table), which eventually became simply la Table, and today la Tavola.
The term is analogous to the English word Board, which similarly carries the dual meaning of a table and a committee or commission.
William Jourdan, Moderator
Born in Pinerolo in 1982, he grew up in the Waldensian Valleys, attending the Waldensian Church in Luserna San Giovanni. After studying at the Waldensian High School in Torre Pellice, he studied theology in Rome at the Waldensian Faculty of Theology, and later in Heidelberg and Lausanne.
From 2010 to 2017, he served the Methodist churches in Vicenza and Bassano del Grappa, acting as Superintendent of the Seventh Circuit for part of this period. In 2017, he became pastor of the Waldensian Church in Genoa. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Superintendent of the Fifth Circuit, before becoming a member of the Waldensian Board (Tavola Valdese).
He has collaborated with Claudiana publishing house and the journal Protestantesimo, and is actively involved in ecumenical dialogue, with significant experience at both national and international levels. He is married to a Methodist minister, and they have a son and a daughter.
Daniele Palermo, Vice-Moderator
Born in 1971, he is a member of the Waldensian Church of Palermo, Via Spezio.
He is an Associate Professor of Modern History at the University of Palermo. He served as President of the Church Council (Concistoro) from 2020 to 2023 and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Fourth District from 2019 to 2026, the year in which he was elected Vice-Moderator of the Waldensian Board.
Andrea Sbaffi
A Methodist born in 1969, he has been a member of the Waldensian Church in Turin since 2015. He served on the Church Council, with responsibility for the Buildings Commission.
He is married to Federica, who is Baptist, and they have three children, making theirs a truly BMW (Baptist-Methodist-Waldensian) family.
An architect by profession, he worked as a freelance professional for over twenty years. Since 2021, he has held a senior technical officer position in the Culture and Trade Directorate of the Piedmont Regional Government.
Growing he attended the Methodist Church in Bologna and at the Ecumene Study Centre in Velletri. For fifteen years, he was involved in the Protestant Youth Federation in Italy (Federazione Giovanile Evangelica in Italia), which he also represented at numerous international gatherings, including those of WSCF, EMYC, MAYC and EYCE.
He also served as a conscientious objector at the Re Carlo Alberto Refuge in Luserna San Giovanni, in the province of Turin, and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Agape Ecumenical Centre in Prali (Turin), from 2009 to 2015.
Laura Baldassini
Born in Milan in 1963, she works as a coordinator at an employment agency supporting the integration of disadvantaged people and people with disabilities in the labour market.
She grew up attending in the Waldensian Church in Milan and has a long history of involvement in community, social and environmental initiatives. She was active in the Protestant Youth Federation in Italy and taught Italian to people from other countries at the Jacopo Lombardini Centre in Cinisello Balsamo, where she also experienced communal living.
She coordinated the Gallo Verde environmental team and the working group to combat gender-based violence.
Until recently, she was a member of the Church Council of the Waldensian Church in Milan. Since 2024, she has been a member of the Assembly of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy.
Davide Ollearo
Born in Ivrea in 1970, he grew up attending the local Waldensian Church.
He studied at the Waldensian Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Theology at the University of Basel. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Intercultural Theology from the Waldensian Faculty.
In 1999, following his probationary period, he was ordained to the pastoral ministry. He has served in Scicli, Pramollo and Villar Perosa. He is currently pastor of the Methodist churches in Bassano del Grappa and Vicenza.
He has served on the Council of the Second Circuit and on the Executive Committees of the First and Second Districts. He also chaired the Executive Committee of the Second District.
He is married to Daniela Santoro, who is also a pastor, and they have two children.
Ulf Hermann Koller
Born in Germany in 1965, he is married with three children and is a double qualified lawyer, holding the German state qualifications required to practise law (Volljurist). He has lived in Umbria for almost thirty years.
Before moving to Italy, he practised as a lawyer. He subsequently worked for a multinational company until 2010, initially in general and legal affairs and later in external relations and human resources.
Since 2011, he has worked as a consultant specialising in recruitment and personnel selection, organisational development, data protection and anti-corruption. For the past eight years, he has also worked as an auditor of European organisations and projects.
A Methodist, he previously served as President of the Council of the Methodist Church in Terni and as Vice-President of the Executive Commission of the Third District.
He was first elected to the Waldensian Board in 2021 and has since served as its delegate for the Third District.
Davide Rostan
Born in Rome in 1973, he grew up in Cinisello Balsamo, at the Comune (intentional Christian community) of the Jacopo Lombardini Circle, while attending the Waldensian community in Milan.
He studied theology in Rome at the Waldensian Faculty of Theology and later in Cambridge.
A Waldensian pastor since 2005, he has served at the Waldensian Church in Bobbio Pellice since 2021, also acting as Superintendent of the First Circuit.
Following his probationary period at the churches in Cerignola, Venosa, Corato and Bergamo, he went on to serve in Prali, Catania, Novara, Susa, Coazze and Meana.
From 2005 to 2009, he was co-director of the Agape Ecumenical Centre. For approximately ten years, he also served Baptist churches belonging to UCEBI, in Catania and the Susa Valley.
